introduction to the career-span competence (CSC) concept and approach - complimentary
An in-person or virtual session (~1 hour) with Collaborative members, which provides an opportunity for a closer look at and exploration of the CSC concept and approach. This is an interactive session, enabling your decision-makers to obtain an understanding of the CSC Approach, discuss how the approach applies to your organization’s programming, and ask questions.
Upon completion of the session, we will provide you with an e-booklet and power point slide deck that provides an overview of the CSC concept and approach, for easy reference for your team and organization.
career-span (cs) competencies
The CSC Approach provides a core set of Career-Span (CS) Competencies foundational to performance development throughout a professional’s career. Each competency comes with a detailed narrative statement that provides a generic interpretation to ensure clear understanding of related expectations.
We will work closely with you and your team to customize (as needed) and validate the CS Competencies for your professional group’s needs.
csc resource guide
The CSC Resource Guide provides a listing of public, web-based resources and materials relevant to each CS Competency. In addition to the title and authorship, the guide includes information on the source and links to the resource.
The Guide lists generic resources applicable across professions, and can be customized by adding resource materials specific to our clients.
csc self assessment
The Self Assessment is a rigorous tool of performance-based indicators developed specifically for each of the CS Competencies. These indicator questions enable valid and reliable assessment of each competency by the professional.
We will work closely with you and your team to ensure that the indicators are meaningful to your professional group.
csc multi-source feedback
Multi-Source Feedback (MSF) is commonly used to obtain performance-related feedback from others directly affected by a professional’s performance (such as clients, co-workers or students). By corroborating information from various sources on the professional’s work performance, MSF enables more robust and objective performance information.
We provide source-specific indicators for MSF that are drawn from the CS Competencies and align with the indicators for Self Assessment.
Other assessment approaches
Career-Span Competence may be assessed in various ways. A self assessment tool is a the most commonly used assessment methodology; however, it is not the only method nor necessarily the most objective.
We will work closely with you and your team to explore assessment options, identify the most appropriate assessment vehicles for your professional group and purpose, and/or develop assessment vehicles to best meet your needs.
Applications of the csc approach
The CSC Approach can be applied by organizations in a variety of ways to support their professionals in career-span performance development. Our approach has been applied to quality assurance programs, practice support programming, and as a framework for continuing competence.
We will work with you and your team to develop an approach or framework for integrating the CSC Approach to your programming.
csc-based program implementation
The CSC Approach can be applied by organizations in a variety of ways to support the professionals they represent in career-span performance development.
We will work closely with you and your team to support the development of an implementation plan and undertake the required activities (e.g. awareness building, communications, support platform development) to ensure successful implementation of a CSC-based program.
Development and implementation of new ideas and programming should be evaluated to understand what did or did not work (barriers and facilitators of the process). Such an evaluation provides critical understanding of how to move forward in an effective and efficient manner based on learnings gleaned from the process. An evaluation plan is also crucial as it provides clarity of purpose, specific objectives for the CSC-based initiative, and assessment of what was achieved.
We will work closely with you and your team to develop an evaluation plan and undertake the required evaluation activities to provide useful insights and to inform forward momentum and progress.
